Home of some of the best views, hiking Mount Lafayette is a great challenge for hikers. This mountain is the tallest peak outside of the presidential range, standing at 5,249 feet. The trail is rugged and has exposed terrain, making it difficult to navigate at times. During this hike you may come across many streams you must cross, so bring waterproof hiking shoes and extra pairs of socks. This trail is steep as well, and during the summer, make sure to pack sunscreen as much of the trail isn’t covered, leaving high risk for sunburns. It is also recommended to bring trekking poles to allow the hike to go more smoothly, though not mandatory. If it has just recently rained, trails may be muddy and slippery, so make sure to hike slowly and cautiously. It is recommended to attempt this hike on a clear day to get a better view. During winter months, trails make be covered in snow and have icy sections.
