Acadia National Park, home to many popular hiking trails, features a beautiful but daring hike. Precipice Trail is a technical hike, involving lots of rock scrambling and climbing requirements. In the very beginning of the hike, there is a section where you must be able to climb up metal bars to get over a boulder. This is a great test to see if you have the strength to complete this hike. If you cannot get up by yourself and need assistance, it is recommended to not attempt this hike as later on you will not be able to get assistance. In just 0.9 of a mile, you will gain over 1000 ft of elevation, standing on small ledges that lead to over 100 foot drops. There is not any safety bars along the sides in some sections, which is why it is important to wear sturdy shoes, have good balance, and to not go during wet / slippery conditions. With climbing, you must not have a fear of heights as you will be climbing hundreds of feet in the air with no safety gear and standing on ledges smaller than 3 feet. This trail is NOT pet friendly by any means. Please refrain from bringing any pets as they will not be able to climb the ladders.
